Gov. JB Pritzker announced on January 30 that the Morton Grove Park District received grant funding through the Open Space and Land Acquisition Development grant program. Nearly $55 million in state grants were awarded for 111 local park projects throughout Illinois to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities.
The Park District is the recipient of $352,100 in matching OSLAD grant funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Morton Grove Park District is excited to utilize these funds to improve the existing recreation amenities at Palma Lane Park.
Improvements to the park include a new playground, nature play area, resurfacing the basketball court, a walking path along the park’s perimeter, improvement to the ballfield, a shelter, ADA improvements, and a pollinator garden.
Work on the project is expected to begin in late summer or early fall of this year.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources administers the OSLAD grants, funded by a percentage of Illinois’ Real Estate Transfer Tax, to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities.
